Thaipusam 2012 - Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur


The annual Hindu festival of Thaipusam, where up to 1 million Tamil devotees make the pilgrimage to Batu Caves to bring offerings to Lord Murugan. As a form of penance, some carry kavadis - brightly decorated frameworks weighing 50 - 80kg. Some pierce their bodies with metal hooks and skewers, some through their cheeks and tongue.
